1MUSIC CLUB (INSTRUMENTAL & VOCAL) As a mark of inaugurating the music club activities, a guest lecture on Relevance of Music in the Modern Era was offered by Mr.J.D. Ben (Instrumentalist) on 11.01.2010 the college Auditorium. The inaugural function provided an access for our students to know about the salient features of music. The special address rendered by the resource person beckoned the participants to fall in love with music. It served as an eye-opener to know that music can give a healing touch to every man who lives under a great deal of stress in the competitive world. 2010-10-11
2GANDHIAN STUDIES CLUB The Gandhian Studies Club was inaugurated by Dr.A.Alagirisamy M.A.,M.Phil.,Ph.D., Associate Professor in Gandhian Studies, Religious and Philosophy, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai on 01.10.2009. 9HELEN KELLER & SCRIBE CLUB Inter collegiate cultural competitions for the visually challenged was conducted on 11th February 2010. Thiru.N.Nanmaran, MLA of Madurai east constituency delivered the inaugural address. He assured that he would recommend for the establishment of a Government Hostel for the visually challenged students. About 70 visually challenged students from more than ten colleges participated in various competitions like dance, solo song, speech, poetry recitation, mimicry, Sis.Chinna Rani, Head Mistress of St.Josephs School for the blind gave away the prizes. 2010-02-11

14FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME: A One-day Faculty Development Programme (Under UGC Autonomy Grant) was organized on 06.02.2010 for our teachers. Dr.G.Sinivas, Joint Secretary and Head, UGC SERO, Hyderabad was the resource person. Mr.R.Panchanathan, Talent Consultancy, Trichy and Dr.Raja Govindasamy, Principal Thiagarajar College, Madurai also spoke on the programme. Dr.G.Sinivas, Joint Secretary and Head, UGC SERO, Hyderabad Community Services: The Blood Donors club in collaboration with the N.S.S. units of our college and Vadamalayan Hospitals organized a BLOOD DONATION CAMP as a part of the celebrations of 107th Birth Anniversary of Bharatha Ratna K.Kamarajar on 13.07.2009. As a mark of great service to the mankind, a total of 107 donors including staff and girls students with great enthusiasm donated their blood. Blood Donation The Blood Donors’ Club in collaboration with the N.S.S. units of our college and Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai organized a Blood Donation Camp as a part of 63rd Independence Day celebration on 14.08.2009. A total of 126 donors including staff and girls students with great enthusiasm donated their blood. Blood Donation Our college has a very big team of blood donors who are prepared to exhibit their humanitarian concern, by voluntarily coming forward to serve the mankind. During the camp we also helped the first year students to know their blood group at free of cost. The beneficiaries of this camp will be the patients from hospitals and nursing homes situated in and around the peripherals of Madurai city who are in need of quality blood for surgeries and treatments. It is planned to extend this facility to the institution in the suburbs also. Blood Donation Blood Donors Club and NSS units of our college organized a Mega Blood Donation Camp along with Rajaji Government Hospital, Madurai on Thursday the 25.03.2010. The Blood Donation camp was inaugurated by Thiru.R.V.D.Ramaiah, Executive Committee Member, in the presence of Dr.Perrys P.Mahendravel, Secretary and Correspondent and felicitated by Thiru.V.S.Manimaran, Treasurer. Our College Executive Committee Thiru.R.V.D. Ramaiah, in his inaugural address, stressed the significance of human charity and service through this meaningful act of donating blood. He also said that it was our duty to save others life through there selfless act. On this occasion the special address was rendered by Dr.S.Asokan, Principal. In his speech he emphasized the importance of donating the blood. During this blood donation camp more than 200 donars including members of the staff donated their blood. Blood Donation Parent-Teacher Association: The meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association was held on 25.09.2009 at our college. Mr.G.Amalraj, Head, Department of Business Administration offered the welcome address. The Principal of the college and President of the PTA, Dr.S.Asokan, over the meeting and highlighted the complementary nature of the roles of the parents, teachers and the management in the development of the students. Dr. A.Adhithan, Head, Linguistics, Madurai Kamaraj University Mr.M.Jeyakani, Vice-Principal of the college, appreciated the parents for gathering in large numbers. 11HONOURING CEREMONY Eight students of our were honoured by the Management for receiving grant under Students Project Scheme sponsored by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST), Chennai, students will be working on five projects with the grant amount of Rs.46,000. 15It was with great pride that our College celebrated the 106th birth anniversary of our beloved National leader Bharat Ratna K.Kamaraj who inaugurated the college on 20th July 1965. With the motto of creating an awareness of education among the students, a cycle rally was organized at 07.00a.m. The rally was flagged off by the Secretary and Correspondent Mr. Perrys P.Mahendravel. Nearly 106 students participated in the rally which commenced from the Kamarajar statue at Teppakulam. The rally reached the statue of Thiru Kamarajar at the College premises at 10.00a.m. Thiru K.C.Kamatchi, Committee Member of our College received the rally. The Vice-Principal Mr.J.Jeyakani proposed the vote of thanks. Saplings were planted under the presidentship of Thiru V.S.Mnaimaran, Treasurer of the College and the Committee Members Thiru M.Sakthivel and Thiru K.Thangamani Nadar. 18The 60th Republic Day was celebrated in a grant manner in our college on 26.01.2009. Sri.Prof.Arima Thanga. Murugan, M.A., M.Phil., B.Ed.,DGT., Executive Member of the College hoisted the national flag in the college playground and addressed the gathering. He narrated the sacrifices made by the various national leaders for the Republic of India during the different phases of the struggle. Nearly 2000 students and 275 staff members attended the flag hoisting ceremony. Interdepartmental competitions were conducted for the students on that day. 245 students from departments participated in the 13 events like Verse Writing, Kite Making, Vegetable Carving, Kambi Kolam and Rangoli etc. held from 9.00a.m. to 11.00a.m. Prizes were awarded for best three performances in each competitions. 11HONOURING CEREMONY Eight students of our were honoured by the Management for receiving grant under Students Project Scheme sponsored by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST), Chennai, students will be working on five projects with the grant amount of Rs.46,000. 6Under the auspices of the Literacy club (Extension Programme), three different villages, namely Panniyan, Puliyankulam and Keelakuyilkudi were adopted to educate the children studying in different standards (from V to VIII) in the Government Kallar Reclamation Middle Schools located in these villages. The student members taught different subjects such as English, Maths and Science to the children mentioned above. The club activities were commenced in the first week of October, 2007. The student members, in three different batches, each batch consisting of three members, visited the schools mentioned above thrice a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and taught different subjects to the children studying in different standards in those schools. The activities came to an end on 31st March, 2008. All the activities were carried out so enthusiastically that the children were benefited successfully. Certificates were issued to the student members of the club. 2008-03-31

With the valedictory function of the club Mr. Samuel Jeyaprakash was invited to talk on Business ideas with Computers last but not the last Mr.Jeyaprakash spoke explicitly on the necessity of computers in business. 22A Self Employment Training Programme was held on 10.01.2008. Our principal Dr.J.Mahatman Rao, presided over the training programme. This programme was intended to motivate the students to step into the new ventures without fear & frustration. 5The 43rd College Day celebrations were held on 11.04.2008, Friday at 5.00p.m. under the presidentship of Mr.A.T.B. Bose, B.E., President, N.M.S.S.V.N. College, Mrs.V.Radhika Selvi, Honourable Minister of State for Home Affairs, New Delhi was the chief guest Mr.Perrys P.Mahendravel, B.Com., Secretary and Correspondent, N.M.S.S.V.N. College welcomed the gathering Mr.D.Kannan, M.B.A.,B.L., Secretary and Correspondent, V.M.J.Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Madurai, opened the portrait of the college founder Mr.S.Vellaichamy Nadar and felicitated. Mr.S.V.Sadanandam, Patron, N.M.S.S.V.N. College, Mr.G.Karikolraj, General Secretary, Nadar Mahajana Sangam and Mr.V.V.A.Srinivasan enriched the function with their august presence. 6Under the auspices of the Literacy club (Extension Programme), three different villages, namely Panniyan, Puliyankulam and Keelakuyilkudi were adopted to educate the children studying in different standards (from V to VIII) in the Government Kallar Reclamation Middle Schools located in these villages. The student members taught different subjects such as English, Maths and Science to the children mentioned above. The club activities were commenced in the first week of October, 2007. The student members, in three different batches, each batch consisting of three members, visited the schools mentioned above thrice a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and taught different subjects to the children studying in different standards in those schools. The activities came to an end on 31st March, 2008. All the activities were carried out so enthusiastically that the children were benefited successfully. Certificates were issued to the student members of the club. 2008-03-31
7A paper presentation programme was conducted for the students on 27.03.2008. Dr.N.Ezhil, convenor, welcomed the gathering, Dr.J.Mahatman Rao, Principal presided over the function. 14Self Employment Training club conducted Four Days Workshop on Fabric Designing from 19.02.08 to 22.02.08. The Secretary & Correspondent Thiru. Perrys P. A.Jeyalakshmi, Dept. of Com.CA. demonstrated the events such as Stone Work, Mirror Work, Jardoshi & Jamuki work and Fabric Painting. 15A classroom seminar was organised on 13.02.2008 for the I-B.B.A. students on AIDS Awareness by A.Nelson of Tirunelveli, a physical challenged person on a mission in his wheel-chair throughout India. 2008-02-13
16 Another venture from our club was the Guest lecture conducted on 13.02.08 by a LIC officer, Mr.Ramakrishnan and a branch manager, Mr.K.Kumaran various new policy implementation manipulated by LIC, was discussed fervently by Mr.Krishnan. With the valedictory function of the club Mr. Samuel Jeyaprakash was invited to talk on Business ideas with Computers last but not the last Mr.Jeyaprakash spoke explicitly on the necessity of computers in business. The visually challenged students are given counselling sessions and encouraged to take part in various activities. He touched upon various aspects pertaining to music instruments moreover he threw light upon the glorious effect of music that can bestow bliss upon man. Having been enlightened by his enthralling speech, our students asked many questions concerning instruments like Drums, Guitar and Keyboard. The speech delivered by the guest speaker served as an eye opener to comprehend how music plays a vital role in our life. 13Helen Keller Club: Helen Keller Club has 24 visually challenged students as its members. A One-day State Level UGC HEPSN Awareness Programme for the visually challenged students was conducted on 03.03.2007 in which 90 students from various parts of Tamilnadu participated. Two members of the club Mr.M.Chelladurai and Mr.S.Senthilkumar of III B.A. were part of the volley ball team that won the state level volley ball tournament for the visually challenged. 2007-03-03
14Extension Activities Club: In collaboration with Students Service Forum, Extension Activities Club made necessary arrangements to issue learners license to students. Both the clubs, combined together, organized an Eye-Donation Function on 01.03.2007. 2007-03-01

1Citizenship Training Club: The inaugural function of the Citizenship Training Club was held on 28th December 2006 by Prof.S.Raju, M.A., Co-ordinator, N.S.S., Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. The chief guest in his speech listed various rights enjoyed by a citizen. The important rights are the voting rights. The recent right, we got is the right to know the information from the Government. He also said that the strongest one in a nation is the one who has the ability to see and enjoy the beauty of a rose without disturbing or destroying it. Likewise a strongest citizen must enhance the beauty of the nation by constructing new dams, roads, bridges and tall buildings and enjoy the beauty without disturbing or destroying it. He concluded his speech with a request that everyone should be a strongest man always. 2006-12-28
2Adult Education: Adult Education programme was started at Thiruvedagam and Umatchikulam with the help of women self-help group of the respective villagers on 09.12.2006 and 10.12.2006 respectively. Volunteers help the illiterate adults to read and write in Tamil 2006-12-09
3Debate Club: Debate club was officially inaugurated on 25.09.06 by Dr.G.Marishkumar, Department of History, and Dr.S.Alagar Nathan Department of Tamil. Meetings were conducted regularly by the coordinator in the Department of Communication English. Entrepreneurship Club: Mr.Ayyanan Inspector, DIC Madurai delivered a lecture on How to become an entrepreneur on 07.03.2007. Mr.S.Balakrishnan Managing Director, Champion Litho, spoke on Problem and Prospects of SSI on 08.03.2007. 2006-09-25
4Blood Donor Club: On 15.09.2006, the 114th birthday of WPA Soundarapandian, a blood donation camp was organized, in which, 231 students, including 30 girls, donated blood. On 07.03.2007 a one-day Blood Donation Awareness Programme was conducted. The second blood donation camp was organized in collaboration with NSS units and Government Rajaji Hospital on 09.03.2007. 2006-09-15
5National Literacy Club:International Literacy day was observed by the club on 08.09.2006. An awareness programme was conducted on 05.03.2007. To emphasize the importance of literacy a cycle rally and a guest lecture were arranged on that day. Nature Club: Member of this club visited Keelakuilkudi pond, Alagarkoil, Kadachanendal aquarium and Courtallam hills. 2006-09-08
6Memorable Days in the Colleges:Karmaveerar K. Kamarajars 104 birthday was celebrated in a grand manner on 15.07.06. A cycle parade, kaviarangam, and blood donation camp were organised. 60 Independence Day on 15.8.06 was attended by all. 42nd Annual Sportsday on 20.1.07 and Er. Jeyarajan was the chief guest. 58th Republic day was on 26.1.07 and advocate S.Pandian presided and P.Arunagiri Pandian EC member hoisted the flag. There were many competitions for the students and many participated actively 2006-07-15
7OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION: A very notable event in 2005-2006 academic year is the establishment of the branch of Helen Keller Club in continuation of the work done by Scribe Club here. The Scribe Club registered the service of 193 volunteers to assist visually challenged as scribes during their test and examination days. These volunteers also served as scribes in the Indian Association for the Blind, Madurai and the Nadar Saraswathi Higher Secondary School, Usilampatti. The Helen Keller Club not only conducted periodical meetings for the visually challenged 23 students 5 girls and 18 boys but also supplied with study materials in the form of audio-cassettes and books. These students were taken on a study tour to Kanyakumari on 3rd March 2006. A volley ball match for these visually challenged was organised by the Department of Physical Education of our college. Two of the visually challenged students of our college M.Chelladurai of II B.A. (Lit.) and U.Saravanan of I B.A. (Lit.) represented Tamilnadu in the cricket match. Dharmendran of I B.A. (History) secured second place in shotput in the State level athletics. Under UGC HEPSN project a sum of Rs.9,46,000/- has been sanctioned to build a centre for visually challenged. The Adult Education Club had community services to the rural people of Sambakkudi and Nagamalai villages. The beneficiaries were 57 men and women. Writing materials were supplied to the senior citizens who were educated through five sittings. The Entrepreneurship Club invited entrepreneurs to the club meeting to enlight on the promotion of enterprise, micro-finance, challenges to entrepreneurs and so on. The inter-collegiate seminar on, Entrepreneur Leading from the Front was conducted on 15th March 2006. The Youth Red Cross society in collaboration with Students Grievance Cell organised a one-day symposium on 15th March 2006 on Counselling and Management. The World University Services conducted one-day Interaction cum Cultural Programme on 9th March 2006 on the theme Power of Students. Poetry discourse, quiz and oratorical contest were conducted. The National Literacy Club conducted a survey of the school dropouts in the nearby villages of the college viz., Nagamalai, Sambakkudi, Pudukkulam and Muthupatti on September 2005. It discovered that the dropout was mainly due to parents low income and less interest of students at the poor environment. The Leo Club motivated its members to render selfless service to the community. The Population Education Club served to create awareness among the public and students regarding the population explosion and its effects. The Students Service Forum conducted yeoman service to the public and students to get driving licence after getting proper training through the R.T.O. Madurai (North). It also conducted First Aid Awareness meet and Demonstration on 16th March 2006 with the assistance of Meenakshi Mission Hospital. The Planning Forum organised guest lecture on Indian Economy on 16th September 2005 and a symposium on National water issue on 22nd September 2005. The Women Cell of the college trained girl students in doll making and craft work. Emphasizing the awakening on women during the pongal festival celebration, the cell organised cultural programmes. International Womens Day was jubilantly celebrated with the opening of stalls for the sale of self help group products of women. The Citizenship Club selected the Best Students, 2005-06 through questionnaires supplied to non-arrear students. J.Stephen Jeralo and R.Ramesh Kannan of II M.Sc. were judged as first and second best students; where as the third place was shared by M.Pokkishavali of M.Phil. Commerce and K.Ravikumar of II M.Sc. Chemistry. The Fine Arts Club rendered an attractive contribution during the visit of NAAC Peer Team visit and College Day celebration. 2006-03-15
8Autonomous During December 2005 the college applied to the UGC for autonomy status. In response, the UGC sent an expert committee on 25.01.06. This committee was headed by Dr. R.H. Chauhan Additional Secretary other experts in the committee are Prof.J.V.Prabhakar Rao, Dr.V.Sengodan and Dr.Mrs.S.Mehartaj Begum of the UGC. They inspected the college and interacted with the students and the staff. This organisation catered to all the criteria demanded by the norms of the UGC. The UGC has recommended Autonomous status add it is to be approved by the university. In the next academic year 2007-2008 this college will be an Autonomous institution. This allows the college to form its own syllabi for all the courses. The exam pattern would also be changed. 2006-01-25
9But what stands out in the campus is the Braille initiative, benefiting 28 visually challenged students, stated The Hindu. (Education Plus, Dated 9th Jan. 2006). (annexure 1). Perhaps your college is the only college in the entire state giving utmost importance to them (visually challenged students) in admission and other welfare measures, acknowledges Dr.M.Rajaram, IAS, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Housing Board, who inaugurated the state-level one-day seminar for the visually challenged students on 03.03.2007. (annexure 2) Preference in admission, free transport, Scribe Club to help them in their studies, sports programmes, tours, awards for achievers, meetings and seminars, scholarships, and above all, the Helen Keller club our Braille initiative extends further. We are proud to state that all visually challenged applicants are given admission in the course of their choice. At present there are twenty four such students in our college. 18 are in B.A., 5 in M.A., and one in M.Phil. Seven of them are girls. As most of them stay in the IAB Hostel, about 20 kms away, they are allowed to make use of the college buses free of cost. Ten of these students are recipients of the student scholarship given by the MUTA teachers of our college. The members of the Scribe Club, led by Mr.J.Thangamariappan, Lecturer in English, help these students in their studies by reading lessons for them, by recording the lessons in audio cassettes, writing examination for them as scribes and keeping them company to boost up their morale. We note with pride that there are about hundred members in the Scribe Club. With the prime aim of empowering the visually challenged we encourage them to take part in various activities like sports, music programmes, tours and awareness programmes. Separate events are conducted for the visually challenged students on the sports day. This year, volleyball matches were also conducted for them. In March 2007, a volley-ball match between our college and the city colleges was conducted, in which both the teams won a set each. The match had to be stopped because of light failure. Four of our visually challenged students are state-level players. M.Chelladurai of III B.A. (Litt.) and Senthil Kumar of III B.A. (Litt.) represent Tamil Nadu in volley ball; and U.Saravana Kumar of II B.A. (Litt.) M.Chelladurai of III B.A. (Litt.) and Saravanan of I M.A.(His.) represent the state in Cricket. The Management encouraged them will cash awards of Rs.1000/- each. Some of the visually challenged students are members of our choir, and Mr.G.John David, Lecturer in English is the choir-master. The choir sang the prayer song on 30.11.2006, when the State Senior Volley Ball Tournament was inaugurated. They also sang on the N.C.C. Day, N.S.S. Day and other important occasions like the College day. These students, some of the members of the Scribe Club and some teachers went on a tour to Kanyakumari on 2nd March 2006. A one-day State-level UGC-HEPSN awareness programme for the visually challenged college students was held at our College recently, on 03.03.2007. The theme of the meet was ‘Empowerment through Awareness. After inaugurating the meet, Dr.M.Rajaram, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Housing Board, advised the visually challenged students not to lose heart but to sit for competitive examinations. The District Disabled Rehabilitation Officers of Madurai and Thanjavur, Ms.M.Jeyaseeli and Ms.R.Shyamala, spoke on government schemes and concessions offered to the visually challenged. They also answered the queries raised by students. Prof.M.Krishnan and Prof.B.R.Ravi Kannan, a visually challenged college lecture of Sourastra College, Madurai, conducted a discussion session in the afternoon. Thiru.Perrys P.Mahendravel, Secretary and Correspondent of the college, presided over the function. Thiru.P.Jawahar, Treasurer, lighted the kuthuvillakku. Dr.G.Joseph Panneer Selvam, Head, Department of English, and coordinator of HEPSN programme welcomed the gathering, Dr.K.Natarajan, Principal and Prof.T.Rajaram offered felicitations. The chief guest in his speech listed various rights enjoyed by a citizen. The important rights are the voting rights. The recent right, we got is the right to know the information from the Government. He also said that the strongest one in a nation is the one who has the ability to see and enjoy the beauty of a rose without disturbing or destroying it. Likewise a strongest citizen must enhance the beauty of the nation by constructing new dams, roads, bridges and tall buildings and enjoy the beauty without disturbing or destroying it. He concluded his speech with a request that everyone should be a strongest man always. 2006-12-28
2Adult Education: Adult Education programme was started at Thiruvedagam and Umatchikulam with the help of women self-help group of the respective villagers on 09.12.2006 and 10.12.2006 respectively. Volunteers help the illiterate adults to read and write in Tamil 2006-12-09
3Debate Club: Debate club was officially inaugurated on 25.09.06 by Dr.G.Marishkumar, Department of History, and Dr.S.Alagar Nathan Department of Tamil. Meetings were conducted regularly by the coordinator in the Department of Communication English. Entrepreneurship Club: Mr.Ayyanan Inspector, DIC Madurai delivered a lecture on How to become an entrepreneur on 07.03.2007. Mr.S.Balakrishnan Managing Director, Champion Litho, spoke on Problem and Prospects of SSI on 08.03.2007. 2006-09-25
4Blood Donor Club: On 15.09.2006, the 114th birthday of WPA Soundarapandian, a blood donation camp was organized, in which, 231 students, including 30 girls, donated blood. On 07.03.2007 a one-day Blood Donation Awareness Programme was conducted. The second blood donation camp was organized in collaboration with NSS units and Government Rajaji Hospital on 09.03.2007. 2006-09-15
5National Literacy Club:International Literacy day was observed by the club on 08.09.2006. An awareness programme was conducted on 05.03.2007. To emphasize the importance of literacy a cycle rally and a guest lecture were arranged on that day. Nature Club: Member of this club visited Keelakuilkudi pond, Alagarkoil, Kadachanendal aquarium and Courtallam hills. 2006-09-08
6Memorable Days in the Colleges:Karmaveerar K. Kamarajars 104 birthday was celebrated in a grand manner on 15.07.06. A cycle parade, kaviarangam, and blood donation camp were organised. 60 Independence Day on 15.8.06 was attended by all. 42nd Annual Sportsday on 20.1.07 and Er. Jeyarajan was the chief guest. 58th Republic day was on 26.1.07 and advocate S.Pandian presided and P.Arunagiri Pandian EC member hoisted the flag. 7OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION: A very notable event in 2005-2006 academic year is the establishment of the branch of Helen Keller Club in continuation of the work done by Scribe Club here. The Scribe Club registered the service of 193 volunteers to assist visually challenged as scribes during their test and examination days. These volunteers also served as scribes in the Indian Association for the Blind, Madurai and the Nadar Saraswathi Higher Secondary School, Usilampatti. The Helen Keller Club not only conducted periodical meetings for the visually challenged 23 students 5 girls and 18 boys but also supplied with study materials in the form of audio-cassettes and books. These students were taken on a study tour to Kanyakumari on 3rd March 2006. A volley ball match for these visually challenged was organised by the Department of Physical Education of our college. Two of the visually challenged students of our college M.Chelladurai of II B.A. (Lit.) and U.Saravanan of I B.A. (Lit.) represented Tamilnadu in the cricket match.
